Travel and Work

Decades ago when the world was a much more harmonious place, I began my solo international travel experiences with my first trip to Vietnam in 2001 then onwards to Hong Kong overland through China, Mongolia, spent a month on Lake Baikal in Siberia, then through to eastern Russia, Finland, England and finally a nice relaxing month in southern India.

All up, about 8 months of traveling. It was some of the most memorable experiences of my life and I meet and enjoyed time with incredible welcoming and warm people. There were quite a few tense moments too, involving guns, vodka and the mafia, but no hospital visits were red!

I have always been a nomad and absolutely thrive on the challenges real travel can offer. I have learnt more about myself and citizens of the world around me through travel than I could ever have imagined. I have learned languages, customs, culture, and, of course, food that still benefits me on a daily basis.

Back then I always dreamed about incorporating travel in my career and I feel I have almost achieved that.

It has taken me almost 25 years, but I now travel to some of the most incredible parts of the planet.

From the Swedish Lapland region in the Arctic circle to the altitudes of the Andes mountains, the vast, desolate Atacama Desert, the mountains and rivers of Patagonia, the stunningly beautiful and isolated Pilbara region, all unlocked to me through my career working with Autonomous Haulage Systems.

I have no doubt my lifelong experience with international travel has helped me greatly to get where I am today and without those invaluable skills, experience, patience that travel builds I could not be where I am today.

So, if there is one thing I would recommend and encourage anyone with an inquisitive mind to do, it would travel and explore!!! It will make you a better person and undoubtedly increase your value in your chosen career too.

It is still an amazing planet out there and real travel can provide you so much more than just a stamp in your passport.
